New colored hakeme plant pots by contemporary ceramic artist Tomoko Sakai, who lives and works in Kagawa, Japan.

Layers of soft color are applied over clay surfaces that retain the natural character and texture of the material, creating small landscapes that come to life alongside plants.

Pale blues, pinks, and yellows.
While painterly in their sense of color, these works blend naturally into both plants and interiors, bringing a quiet sense of warmth and beauty into everyday life.

Though functional as planters, each piece carries the presence of a standalone artwork.

These new works by Tomoko Sakai will be available beginning June 20 as part of Kinji Teramoto and Japanese Handcrafts.

Rurbanism is pleased to participate in Kinji Teramoto and Japanese Handcrafts, a special exhibition held at ANATOMICA Tokyo from June 20, 2026.

The exhibition explores traditional Japanese craftsmanship through the perspective of Kinji Teramoto, whose lifelong pursuit of authenticity has led him to discover and collect exceptional handmade objects from across Japan and around the world.

For this exhibition, Rurbanism has curated a presentation of ceramic works by Michikazu Sakai and Tomoko Sakai, accompanied by plants, furniture from Ishinomaki Laboratory, and handcrafted wild grapevine and akebi baskets by Miyamoto Kogei. Together, these objects are presented not simply as products, but as elements of a living landscape.
