Rurbanism online store is pleased to introduce HALF, a table lamp by KOICHI FUTATSUMATA STUDIO.
Founded by designer Koichi Futatsumata in 2013, KOICHI FUTATSUMATA STUDIO specializes in furniture, product, and object design.
Alongside CASE-REAL, his practice dedicated to spatial and architectural design, Futatsumata creates a wide range of objects for everyday life, from furniture and lighting to functional objects.
HALF / TABLE LAMP
HALF is a table lamp designed by Koichi Futatsumata and introduced in 2024.
The design began with the simple, anonymous beauty of the familiar glass globe bulb.
By incorporating this familiar form into the fixture itself and covering only half of the sphere, Futatsumata created a remarkably simple and distinctive composition.
With its soft, gentle light, HALF brings a quiet presence to a space, existing somewhere between a functional light and a small sculpture.
Futatsumata believes that ideal lighting for a living space is not about illuminating an entire room evenly with a single source, but rather about placing points of light where they are needed — an approach he describes as “local light.”
A place to read, a dining table, the corner of a shelf, or somewhere to spend a quiet evening.
Each place calls for its own light, and together these small points of illumination create depth, shadow, and atmosphere within a space.
HALF translates this approach to lighting, developed through Futatsumata’s residential and architectural projects, into an intimate object for everyday life.
Equipped with a replaceable LED bulb and a dimming function, HALF is designed to be used and lived with for many years, unlike rechargeable lighting that is often treated as disposable.

Gentle shadows created by placing a small light exactly where it is needed.
Rather than asserting itself within a space, HALF forms a natural relationship with the furniture, objects, and surroundings around it, quietly becoming part of the landscape.
KOICHI FUTATSUMATA
Koichi Futatsumata is a spatial and product designer based in Fukuoka and Tokyo. He leads CASE-REAL, his practice for spatial and architectural design, as well as KOICHI FUTATSUMATA STUDIO, dedicated to product design.
Working across architecture, interiors, furniture, lighting, and everyday objects, Futatsumata explores the relationship between function and form through a distinctive and highly considered design approach.
He has collaborated with brands in Japan and internationally, including Artek, valerie_objects, and Tendo Mokko. His vacuum tube amplifier “22” is part of the permanent collection of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA).
Rather than considering a space and the objects within it separately, Futatsumata carefully examines the presence and experience that emerge from the relationship between them. This consistent perspective runs through his work, from architecture to the smallest objects.
