On September 19, 2026, we will open Rurbanism Tokyo Store in Kiyosumi-Shirakawa, Tokyo.

Rurbanism brings together contemporary ceramics, vintage furniture, lighting, plants, music, and objects created in different places and periods, exploring new relationships between objects and the way we live.

Having primarily worked through our online store and exhibitions, this will be our first permanent physical space.

The store is located between Kiyosumi-Shirakawa and Morishita, in a building that was home to a sewing machine shop for more than 40 years.

In creating the new space, we preserved as much as possible of what was already there—the concrete walls, floors and ceilings, along with the marks and traces left by the passage of time.

Throughout the store, works by Japanese ceramic artists coexist with vintage furniture from different countries and eras, lighting by Santa & Cole, plants, and music.

Vintage ALTEC speakers are paired with contemporary JBL audio equipment, a 1960s Pierre Jeanneret cabinet, Santa & Cole lighting, and one-of-a-kind ceramics shaped by hand.

Rather than separating these objects into categories, we bring them together as part of a single living landscape.

Old and new.
Urban and rural.
Industrial production and handcraft.

When things with different histories and origins exist together in the same space, each begins to reveal something that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Rurbanism Tokyo Store is a place to discover and purchase objects, but also a place to experience these relationships in a physical setting.

As the seasons change, and as new works and people enter the space, the landscape of the store will continue to evolve.
