Rurbanism is a curatorial platform that explores new relationships between objects and everyday life through contemporary ceramics, vintage furniture, lighting, plants, music, and more.
The name Rurban combines Rural and Urban.
Cities offer the energy of people and cultures coming together, creating new ideas and possibilities.
The countryside offers a slower sense of time — one that allows us to notice the changing seasons, the scent of the earth, and subtle shifts in light and wind.
We believe there is richness not in choosing one over the other, but in moving between the two.
City and countryside.
Old and new.
The designed and the traces of the human hand.
Nature and culture.
We look for relationships between things that may at first seem different, choosing and bringing them together through our own sensibilities.
What matters to Rurbanism is not simply the name, provenance, or value of an object.
Placing a single flower in a vase.
Choosing a vessel for an everyday meal.
Sitting in a chair we have grown attached to and listening to whatever music feels right in that moment.
Living with the things we find beautiful.
Things that may not be essential to everyday life can subtly shift our sense of time and the way we experience our surroundings, bringing space and resonance into our lives.
Objects created in different times and places meet, forming new relationships as they become part of our everyday lives.
Rurbanism hopes to be a place where each person can discover a way of living — and a landscape of their own.
On September 19, 2026, we will open our first permanent space, Rurbanism Tokyo Store, in Kiyosumi-Shirakawa, Tokyo.
It is a place where the ideas we have explored through our online store and exhibitions can be experienced physically — by touching objects, and experiencing light and sound.
Contemporary ceramics, vintage furniture, lighting, plants, and music.
Things with different histories and origins come together in one space, creating new relationships and new ways of imagining how we live.
To look.
To touch.
To choose through our own sensibilities.
A place in the city where time moves a little differently.
A place to belong.
