KOICHI FUTATSUMATA STUDIO

KOICHI FUTATSUMATA STUDIO is a design practice specializing in furniture, product, and object design, founded in 2013 by Japanese designer Koichi Futatsumata.

In addition to leading the architectural and interior design firm CASE-REAL, Futatsumata has developed a distinctive body of work that explores the relationship between function and form across furniture, lighting, and everyday objects. He is widely recognized for collaborations with both Japanese and international brands, including Artek, valerie_objects, and Tendo Mokko. His work has received numerous design awards and has been acquired into the permanent collections of several museums.

HALF / TABLE LAMP

The HALF Table Lamp was designed by Koichi Futatsumata and introduced in 2024.

The design began with Futatsumata's fascination with the simple, anonymous beauty of the classic glass globe bulb. By incorporating its familiar form into the structure of the lamp and intentionally covering only half of the sphere, he created a composition of remarkable simplicity and clarity.

Emitting a soft, gentle light, HALF possesses the presence of a small sculpture as much as that of a lighting object.

Futatsumata believes that ideal residential lighting should not illuminate an entire space uniformly, but rather consist of localized points of light placed where they are needed. HALF translates this philosophy—developed through years of architectural and residential projects—into an intimate and accessible product.

Equipped with a replaceable LED bulb and dimming functionality, HALF is designed for long-term use. Unlike many rechargeable lamps that are often treated as disposable objects, it embraces durability, repairability, and longevity.

With its quiet light and timeless form, HALF brings gentle shadows and warmth into everyday life, blending naturally into the landscape of the space around it.
