Shohei Ono / “Rust”Plant Pot Small-Long

Based on the theme of “the beauty found in decay,” Ono’s Rusting Forms are created through a distinctive firing process that oxidizes the surface, producing a texture reminiscent of rusted metal and expressing the weathered beauty that emerges with the passage of time.

Although referred to as “Rust,” this distinctive surface is not created using a conventional rust glaze, but through Ono’s own unique technique.

Ono works with an exceptionally hands-on approach, venturing into the mountains to dig his own clay and creating even the raw materials for his glazes from scratch.

Through his close engagement with the material, distinctive techniques, and firing process, the Rust works embody a presence that is at once gentle and rugged, reflecting Ono’s generous and powerful approach to ceramics.
