Description

The new glaze "Shirogin" by contemporary ceramic artist Shohei Ono brings out the powerful texture of the clay itself while also possessing a beautiful and serene expression that carries a sense of transparency and freshness. Depending on the angle of light, it shows a variety of expressions where simplicity and elegance intertwine, with each view being unique.

Shohei Ono maintains a rare production approach, personally digging clay from the mountains and handcrafting even the raw materials for the glaze from scratch. The vessels created with the unique technique and rigorous firing of "Shirogin" embody a generous and powerful presence that combines softness and ruggedness, characteristic of Ono's work.

The Shirogin glazed flowerpot is a precious piece specially made by Shohei Ono for Rurbanism. His flowerpot works are rarely presented in solo exhibitions, and opportunities for them to circulate in the market are extremely limited, making them highly rare pieces.

In the future, Rurbanism will introduce a variety of works, including Shohei Ono's flowerpots.

Shohei Ono
Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1985. Currently creating pottery in Kami City, Kochi Prefecture.

Growing up under his father, ceramic artist Teppei Ono, he continues to create while deeply engaging with nature, digging clay from the mountains and preparing the raw materials for the glaze from scratch after becoming independent.

The vessels that arise from the certain weight when held and their generous shapes carry a quiet tension beneath their simplicity, giving a strong presence to the space itself beyond daily life. They can serve as dishes for serving food, and when used to hold flowers or placed as objects, they reveal a new expression as art pieces that captivate the hearts of viewers.
