Description

The new glaze "Shirogin" by contemporary ceramic artist Shohei Ono brings out the powerful texture of the clay itself while possessing a beautiful and serene expression that embodies a sense of transparency and freshness. Depending on the angle of the light, it displays a variety of expressions that intertwine simplicity and elegance, with no two views being the same.

Shohei Ono maintains a rare production approach by personally entering the mountains to dig up clay and handcrafting the raw materials for his glazes from scratch. The vessels created with "Shirogin" through his unique techniques and rigorous firing possess a generous and strong presence that embodies both softness and ruggedness, characteristic of his work.

The "Shirogin" glazed flowerpot is a valuable piece specially made by Shohei Ono for Rurbanism. His flowerpot works are rarely presented in solo exhibitions, and opportunities for them to circulate in the market are extremely limited, making them highly rare pieces.

In the future, Rurbanism will introduce a variety of works, including Shohei Ono's flowerpots.

Shohei Ono
Born in 1985 in Aichi Prefecture. Currently creating pottery in Kochi Prefecture, Kami City.

Growing up under the guidance of his father, ceramic artist Teppei Ono, he continues to create while deeply engaging with nature, digging clay and preparing the raw materials for glazes from scratch after becoming independent.

The vessels born from the certain weight felt when held and their generous shapes harbor a quiet tension beneath their simplicity, giving a strong presence to the space itself beyond daily life. As vessels for serving food, they also reveal a new expression as art pieces when used for arranging flowers or placed as objects, captivating the hearts of those who see them.
