Through years of working with clay and fire, the work of contemporary ceramic artist Teppei Ono carries a quiet sense of tension and spirit beneath its rustic simplicity, gently drawing in both the viewer and the user.

Formed through an intimate dialogue with clay and fire, these large wood-fired plates bear traces of carving, deposits of ash, and the natural fluctuations of the firing process, rising as a “landscape” upon the surface and bringing a quiet tension into the space.

They serve beautifully as vessels within daily life, yet can also be left to stand quietly on a cabinet, or placed softly upon a dining table — and in doing so, they appear as though they have always belonged there.
