The brushstroke planter by contemporary ceramic artist Tomoko Sakai is born from a unique technique of layering white clay not by "painting" with a brush, but by "placing" it. The expressions of the brushstrokes created by this technique are all different, and the rough texture and the strength of the clay stand out. Behind the three-dimensional shadows created by the brush, a sense of simplicity and gentleness quietly resides, making it a planter that feels pleasant to hold.

This brushstroke planter is a valuable piece specially made by the artist for Rurbanism. Since Tomoko Sakai's planter works are rarely exhibited in solo shows and there are very few opportunities for them to appear on the market, they can be considered extremely rare works.

Tomoko Sakai

Born in 1970 in Kagawa Prefecture. She studied under Naruyoshi Morioka in Wakayama Prefecture and built a climbing kiln in Kagawa Prefecture. After creating ceramics in Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture, she has now established a kiln again in Kagawa Prefecture.

The flower vases created mainly from stoneware and white porcelain embody a gentleness within their strength and elegance, adding a dignified presence and warm comfort to daily life.
