Description

The brushstroke planter by contemporary ceramic artist Tomoko Sakai is born from a unique technique where white clay is layered not by "painting" with a brush, but by "placing" it. The expressions of the brushstrokes created by this technique are never the same, and the rough texture and strength of the clay stand out. Behind the three-dimensional shadows created by the brush, a sense of simplicity and gentleness quietly resides, making it a planter that feels pleasant to hold.

This brushstroke planter is a rare piece specially created by the artist for Rurbanism. Since Tomoko Sakai's planter works are rarely exhibited in solo shows and have very few opportunities to enter the market, they can be considered highly rare works.

In the future, Rurbanism will continue to introduce a variety of works, including planters by Tomoko Sakai.

Tomoko Sakai
Born in Kagawa Prefecture in 1970. She studied under Naruyoshi Morioka in Wakayama Prefecture and built a climbing kiln in Kagawa Prefecture. After making pottery in Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture, she has now established a kiln again in Kagawa Prefecture.

The vases created, primarily from stoneware and white porcelain, embody a gentleness within their strength and elegance, adding a dignified presence and warm comfort to daily life.
