𠮷田 太朗 Taro Yoshita
Born in 1994 in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, Taro Yoshita grew up in Kinzan Kiln, a traditional Kutani ware pottery established in 1906. He graduated from Kyoto Seika University in 2017, majoring in ceramics in the Department of Material Expression, Faculty of Art. In 2018, he joined Kinzan Kiln. Although raised in an environment deeply rooted in traditional ceramic techniques, he became fascinated by the process of shaping clay with his own hands, leading him to pursue a distinctive artistic expression.
Valuing the inherent textures and malleability of clay, as well as the forms that emerge through handcraftsmanship, Yoshita also dedicates himself to extensive glaze experimentation. Through more than 2,000 tests, he has developed his own distinctive colors and textures, embracing the unpredictable transformations that occur through the interaction of clay, glaze, and firing.
Layers of color, intricate variations in glaze, and mineral-like textures characterize his work. While grounded in the traditions of Kutani ware, he explores a free and intuitive approach to form, moving beyond established techniques and conventions through a continuous dialogue with his materials.
Working primarily with everyday vessels such as plates, bowls, and vases, Yoshita creates pieces that balance functionality with a sculptural presence. Each work reveals its own unique expressions of clay and glaze, bringing a distinctive character to the spaces of everyday life.
