Designed in the 1950s by Charlotte Perriand for Steph Simon, the N°18 Bauche Chair is defined by its simple and direct construction.
Four rounded ash legs are connected by stretchers, forming a clear structural frame, while the seat and backrest are woven from straw. Using modest, natural materials such as wood and straw, Perriand allows the construction itself to become part of the chair’s visual expression.
The precise geometry of the wooden frame contrasts with the irregular texture of the handwoven straw, bringing together structural rationality and the warmth of natural materials within a single piece.
Reduced to the essential elements required for everyday use, the chair retains the character of its materials and the traces of the hand that shaped them.
It reflects Perriand’s lifelong exploration of the relationship between furniture, materials, and everyday life.
Please note that, as shown in the photographs, there are scratches and signs of aging throughout the piece. We kindly ask that these characteristics be appreciated as part of the unique charm and authenticity of a vintage item before purchase.
