This is a beautiful flower vase made with Oribe glaze by contemporary ceramic artist Michikazu Sakai.

The deep green glaze of Oribe ware is impressive, characterized by a rich range of colors created by a uniquely blended Oribe glaze and the natural expressions that emerge during firing.

Rurbanism will continue to introduce various works by Michikazu Sakai, including flower vases and plant pots.

Michikazu Sakai

Born in 1975 in Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture. He studied under Bizen ware artist Satoru Masamune and built a climbing kiln in his hometown in 1997. He currently resides in Kagawa Prefecture and continues to create pottery.

The works born from the wood-fired kiln display a variety of characteristics, including the rich expressions of Oribe and Shino, as well as unique glazes made from mimosa ash. The flower vases reflect the power of earth and fire, providing depth and a quiet presence to the space when flowers are arranged in them.

The flower vases, imbued with the blessings of nature, add a gentle warmth to everyday life and tenderly nourish the hearts of those who spend their days with flowers.
