Michikazu Sakai
Born in 1975 in Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture. He studied under Bizen ware artist Satoru Masamune and built a climbing kiln in his hometown in 1997. He currently continues his pottery in Kagawa Prefecture.
The works born from the wood-fired kiln display a variety of characteristics, including the rich expressions of Oribe and Shino, as well as unique glazes made from mimosa ash. The vases reflect the power of earth and fire, providing depth and a quiet presence to the space when flowers are arranged in them.
The vases, imbued with the blessings of nature, add a soft warmth to daily life and gently nourish the hearts of those who spend their days with flowers.
