Description
Ryuji Iwasaki / Ryuji Iwasaki Flowing Glaze
Diameter (φ) 205mm × Height (h) 225mm
This is a flower vase created by contemporary ceramic artist Ryuji Iwasaki.
Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1980. He currently has a studio in Tondabayashi City, Osaka Prefecture, and continues to create with a focus on exploring colors. His unique technique of applying glaze in a circular flow, known as "Kan-nagashi," creates depth, shades, and subtle fluctuations on the surface of the vessel.
The delicate gradient of the glaze, the elegant blue-gray, and the refreshing ice green are among the sophisticated color expressions that are highly regarded both domestically and internationally.
The moist texture and warmth created by applying white glaze to half-porcelain clay and layering copper oxide and chromium oxide like mist is also a significant charm of this work.
This piece is a special flower vase created at the request of Rurbanism.
The glazes used are from the recent representative series "Hi" and Blue Grey.
"Hi" is a color that encompasses complex nuances reminiscent of deep reddish-brown or orange, rather than a vivid red, evoking the evening sky. The gradient that captures the fleeting beauty of the glaze melting and flowing appears on the surface of the vessel with a quiet tension.
Simply decorating it as an object on a cabinet or sideboard brings a quiet depth to the space.
Of course, it radiates a dignified presence on its own, and by arranging multiple works of varying colors and heights, the fluctuations of the glaze and the differences in color resonate with each other, allowing for a richer expression to be enjoyed.
The beauty of the form, which stands on its own even without flowers, is also one of the charms of this work.
