Ryuji Iwasaki / Ryuji Iwasaki Flowing of the Loom

Diameter (φ) 190mm × Height (h) 240mm

This is a flower vase work by contemporary ceramic artist Ryuji Iwasaki.

Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1980. Currently, he has an atelier in Tondabayashi City, Osaka Prefecture, and continues to create with a focus on the exploration of color. His unique technique of layering glaze in a circular flow, known as "kan-nagashi," creates depth, gradation, and subtle fluctuations on the surface of the vessel.

The delicate gradient of the glaze, refined colors such as elegant blue-gray and fresh ice green, are highly regarded both domestically and internationally.
The moist texture and warmth created by applying white glaze to semi-porcelain clay and layering copper oxide and chromium oxide like mist are also significant attractions of this work.

This piece is a special flower vase created at the request of Rurbanism.

The glaze used includes the representative recent series "Hi" and Blue Grey.

"Hi" is a color that embodies complex nuances reminiscent of deep reddish-brown or orange, rather than a vivid red, evoking the sky at dusk. The gradient, which captures the fleeting beauty of the melted and flowing glaze, appears on the surface of the vessel with a quiet tension.

Simply displaying it as an object on a cabinet or sideboard brings a quiet depth to the space.

While it exudes a dignified presence on its own, arranging multiple pieces of varying colors and heights allows the fluctuations of the glaze and differences in color to resonate with each other, providing a richer expression to enjoy.

The beauty of the form that stands on its own even without flowers is also one of the charms of this work.
