“Shirogane” by contemporary ceramic artist Shohei Ono is a body of work that reveals the powerful texture of clay itself, while also carrying a sense of translucency and freshness within its quiet and refined expression.
Depending on the angle of light, the surface shifts between rusticity and elegance, creating endlessly varied landscapes — no two views are ever the same.

Shohei Ono is known for his rare and deeply personal approach to making, sourcing clay directly from the mountains and creating even the glaze materials entirely by hand.
Through his unique techniques and rigorous firing process, the “Shirogane” works embody a distinctive coexistence of softness and rawness, carrying the generous and powerful presence that is uniquely his own.

This Shirogane-glazed planter was specially created by Shohei Ono exclusively for Rurbanism, making it a truly rare and one-of-a-kind piece.

Shohei Ono

Born in Aichi in 1985. Currently based in Kami, Kochi, working as a ceramic artist.
Raised under the guidance of his father, ceramicist Teppei Ono, he has pursued his own path after becoming independent—digging clay from the mountains himself and preparing glazes from raw materials, engaging deeply with nature throughout his practice.

His vessels, shaped with generous forms and imbued with a tangible weight when held, embody both rustic warmth and a quiet sense of tension. They transcend daily use, bringing a powerful presence to the spaces they inhabit. While they function beautifully as tableware, they also reveal new expressions as art pieces—whether holding flowers or standing as sculptural objects—captivating the hearts of those who encounter them.
