Teppei Ono / “Funagata” (Boat-shaped Form)
Description
Diameter (φ) 440mm × Height (h) 50mm
Through years of working with clay and fire, the work of contemporary ceramic artist Teppei Ono carries a quiet sense of tension and spirit beneath its rustic simplicity, gently drawing in both the viewer and the user.
Formed through an intimate dialogue with clay and fire, this wood-fired piece bears traces of carving, deposits of ash, and the natural fluctuations of the firing process, rising as a “landscape” upon the surface and bringing a quiet tension into the space.
This work, titled Funagata (boat-shaped form), is a recent piece by Teppei Ono.
Without prescribing a specific function, it holds within it the memory of a vessel, while the form itself rises as a presence within the space.
Whether used as a vessel in daily life,
left to stand quietly on a cabinet, or placed softly upon a dining table - it appears as though it has always belonged there.
To leave its use undefined. A work in which the presence of earth and fire stands foremost.
Please note:
As each piece is wood-fired, variations in color, ash deposits, and surface expression naturally occur.
Each piece is one of a kind. Please note that individual differences are part of the work’s character.
As these works are handmade, slight variations in size and form should be expected.
