Description

The brushstroke planter by contemporary ceramic artist Tomoko Sakai is born from a unique technique where white clay is layered not by "painting" with a brush, but by "placing" it. The expressions of the brushstrokes that emerge from this technique are all distinct, highlighting a rough texture and the strength of the clay. Within the three-dimensional shadows created by the brush lies a quiet simplicity and gentleness, providing a pleasant sensation when held.

This particular brushstroke planter is a rare piece specially created by the artist for Rurbanism. Since Tomoko Sakai's planter works are rarely exhibited in solo shows and have very few opportunities to enter the market, they can be considered highly rare works.

Rurbanism will continue to introduce a variety of works, including planters by Tomoko Sakai.

Tomoko Sakai
Born in 1970 in Kagawa Prefecture. She studied under Naruyoshi Morioka in Wakayama Prefecture and built a climbing kiln in Kagawa Prefecture. After creating pottery in Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture, she has now established a kiln again in Kagawa Prefecture.
